Economic Development 101 in the Glades

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

Ms. Kelly Smallridge of the Palm Beach County Business Development Board (BDB) will deliver a training session in the Glades covering the basics of economic development for community leaders.

The free program, Econ. Dev. 101, will be held May 30, 2012 from 9-11:30 am at Palm Beach State College. As co-sponsor, LORE is encouraging participation from a broad range of business and community leaders from Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay as well as municipal government authorities. To create new jobs it is important to put a network in place that responds to inquiries, helps potential investors decide and speeds approvals of new projects. As the county’s lead recruitment agency, BDB has condensed the information into a powerful 2-hour session that has already helped other communities be better prepared to create new jobs. Please help by attending or by recommending individuals to attend this training. Forward their names and contact information or put them in touch with me to register early.

Mr. and Mrs. Sagan continue to support Dan and Jacquie Shorter in their mission to end hunger in Palm Beach County

Sunday, November 20th, 2011

Mr. and Mrs. Sagan continue to support Dan and Jacquie Shorter in their mission to end hunger in Palm Beach County . This past Sunday, the Sagans helped to hand out meal packages to many families who may not have otherwise had a meal for Thanksgiving. Through their organization, Palm Beach County Feed the Hungry , the Shorters fed the hungry in the county on Thanksgiving and Christmas from 1987 to 1994. Due to the growing support of the community, volunteers and what they call many ‘blessings’, the Shorters now feed thousands of needy families year round. Most of their recipient families are headed by unemployed or under-employed, single moms with at least 3 children or grandparents living on a small pension who are raising abandoned grandchildren. To read more about their story, click here .

Mrs. Sagan originally found the Shorters five years ago through VolunteerMatch.org , an organization which offers a variety of online services to support a community of nonprofit, volunteer and business leaders committed to civic engagement. The site is really easy to use so if you or someone you know is looking for a place to volunteer, check it out.

Mr. Sagan and his team at the Law Offices of Shannon J. Sagan are committed to giving back to the community in any way that is possible and it is wonderful to know that there are people like the Shorters who facilitate these types of activities to help the people of Palm Beach County .
